Shelley Tanaka

Shelley Tanaka is an award-winning writer, editor and translator of books for children and young adults. She is the long-time fiction editor at Groundwood Books and has edited thirteen Governor General’s Award-winning titles.

Shelley’s own books have been published around the world (US, UK, China, Spain, Japan, Brazil, Germany, Denmark and Korea), and have won the Orbis Pictus Award, the Science in Society Children’s Book Award, the Mr. Christie’s Book Award, the Silver Birch Award and the Information Book Award. She has been twice nominated for the Deutsche Jugendliteraturpreis and has been named Canada’s selection in the French to English translation category for the IBBY (International Board on Books for Young People) Honour List.

Since 2008 Shelley has taught writing for children and young adults in the MFA program at Vermont College of Fine Arts.
